Our Ethos and Sustainability

Our Ethos

To us at Merrow Anam, sustainability is not only about the quality, techniques, and fabrics used within the production of garments, but about creating pieces that are able to be loved and cherished for a lifetime. At Merrow Anam we are detail and speciality focused. We produce small collections that contain deep meaning. Therefore, every single detail is carefully refined, considered and allowed the time to be thought upon to ensure we are releasing product into the world we are proud of and confident in. Our collections are built around traditional craft techniques, including embroidery, crochet, and print design.

Our Makers

It is all thanks to our makers that we can produce the product that we do. We are currently working with female owned factories in India that are certified Fairtrade, GOTs, and SEDEX approved. They share the same sustainable and ethical ethos that we do and have a very high standard of ethical working conditions. This includes fair pay, safe and hygienic working conditions, and treating employees like family. The highly skilled individuals producing our garments are mostly artisans, who are very kindly and generously lending their knowledge and skills of their traditional craft to our production. We are so grateful for them.

Additionally, we partnered with ProjectThrive, a women’s empowerment initiative that employs rural artisans, to create the handcrafted artisanal pieces for the Ivy Crochet story. This initiative is environmentally friendly and creates a far-reaching positive social impact.

Our Fabrics

As a new brand, we are still yet to find what our signature fabric will be, however our fabric choices are always informed and considered, and we have a few favourites that we prefer to work with. These include linen, cotton, and we have started experimenting with ramie and hemp. When choosing fabrics our choices are driven by the longevity, sustainability, and quality of the fabric. Currently, our fabrics and trims are all natural fibre and we aim to have all pieces in our collections to be made from organic natural fibres by 2026.

Our Packaging

When our factory sends us the product, they put each individual garment in biodegradable poly bags to protect the garment, this saves on 100’s of plastic poly bags that are otherwise not biodegradable.

When we receive an order, we package our garments in 100% recyclable boxes and then place them in a biodegradable satchel to ship. We are proud to share that there is no plastic involved in the shipment of customers packages.
